Yuri Bashmet to Perform with RNYSO for the First Time
The Russian National Youth Symphony Orchestra opens its subscription at the Tchaikovsky Hall on October 9 with a performance with Yuri Bashmet. The maestro will be conducting the orchestra for the first time. The program, which includes works by Mozart and Shostakovich, will also feature pianist Angel Wong, silver medalist of the XVII International Tchaikovsky Competition.
The RNMSO and Yuri Bashmet met on the same stage for the first time in a concert for the 100th anniversary of the Moscow Philharmonic: on January 29, 2022, in the Tchaikovsky Hall, together with Maxim Vengerov, Yuri Bashmet performed the solo in Mozart's Concert Sinfonia for Violin and Viola with Orchestra. Now the maestro continues his collaboration with the RNMSO as a conductor – again with Mozart’s music: the famous Piano Concerto No. 23 will be performed. His choice also fell on the classic Fifth Symphony by Shostakovich: the work has not been performed by the RNMSO before and will now be added to the ensemble’s repertoire, which previously included the composer’s Seventh, Tenth and Eleventh Symphonies, performed under the baton of Alexander Lazarev.
For Yuri Bashmet, his performance with the RNMSO will be a continuation of his many years of work with young musicians: he is an active teacher, has repeatedly led youth music academies in various cities of Russia, and in 2012 he initiated the creation and headed the All-Russian Youth Symphony Orchestra, which included some of the RNMSO artists.
