The triumphant winner of the 2015 International Tchaikovsky Competition, Dmitry Masleev has spent the last three seasons making high-profiles appearances in Europe, Asia, North and South Americas. The worldwide demand for his artistry has confirmed his status as a “future great pianist” (La Croix) of “virtuoso brilliance” (The Financial Times) and “musicality of metaphysical proportions” (Neue Musikzeitung).

Mr. Masleev begins his new season with recitals at the Lucerne Festival and the Elbphilharmonie, as well as with a Vienna debut at the Konzerthaus, playing the Shostakovich Piano Concerto No. 1. The highlights also include a special streamed concert from the Liszt Academy in Budapest, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the GyőrPhilharmonic Orchestra, a tour of Spain with The Cadaqués Orchestra and David Robertson, and an Asian tour with the Orchestre National de Lyon and Maestro Tan Dun, the Grammy and Academy-Award winning composer and conductor.

Dmitry Masleev’s debut album featuring works of Scarlatti, Prokofiev and Shostakovich, was released worldwide at the end of last year on Russia’s legendary label Melodiya. It made the Spotify Top Classical 2017 charts and received the prestigious German Critics’ Prize (Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik) in the solo piano category, where it was nominated alongside Krystian Zimerman’s Schubert album (DG). “One can only revel in the poetic spontaneity ofthis Scarlatti recording, not least because of the brilliance, precision and ease of Masleev's playing [...] The recording manifests what Prokofiev himself defined as his main principles: clarity in the expression of ideas, concision, avoidance of anything superfluous in the interpretation. On his debut CD, Masleev establishes a physically perceptible connection between Scarlatti and Prokofiev over the centuries” (Westdeutsche Rundfunk). Within thefirst six months of the release, Mr. Masleev’s own arrangement of Shostakovich’s Elegy fromthe Ballet Suite No. 3 has been downloaded on iTunes over 43,000 times. In acknowledgement of these achievements, ARTE’s primetime TV show Stars von Morgen, hosted by Rolando Villazon, featured Dmitry Masleev as the pianist to watch.

Germany and France have become particularly important destinations for Mr. Masleev, whose early Munich debut at the Philharmonie am Gasteig has already led to two re- engagements there: one with Prokofiev piano sonatas, the other with Beethoven’s FirstPiano Concerto and the Munich Symphony Orchestra. The Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra debut with Rachmaninoff Variations on the Theme of Paganini was nearly sold out. The 2016 appearance at the Philharmonie de Paris has paved the way for recitals at Fondation Louis Vuitton and Museé d’Orsay, as well as an Asian tour with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France under Mikko Franck. In the 2019-20 season, the Philarmonie de Paris will welcome Dmitry Masleev back for a recital at the Cité de la Musique.

Dmitry Masleev’s playing has been admired at the La Roque d’Anthéron, Beauvais, Rheingau,Bad Kissingen, Klavierfestival Ruhr, and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern festivals. In May 2018, he gave nine orchestral, solo and chamber concerts as Artist-in-Residence at the Bodensee Festival, which brings together Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Lichtenstein. Several of these concerts were broadcast across Europe, including a performance of the Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No. 3, which Mr. Masleev gave on his 30th birthday. “From the simple andmemorable opening melody in D-minor to the spectacular finale in the radiant D-major, thepianist coaxed the “Russian soul” of the Concerto out of the instrument. Masleev interpreted Rachmaninov’s work with succinct, technically perfect playing. He dispatched the most unbelievably difficult passages with the greatest number of notes per second, seemingly without effort. The more energy-intensive and clear was his playing, the more serene heseemed... in wonderful harmony with the voluminous body of the SWR Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Christoph Eschenbach” (Volksblatt Lichtenstein).

Highlights of the last season include a collaboration with the Bamberg Symphony, the Amsterdam recital debut at Concertgebouw, and a coast-to-coast US tour with the Moscow State Symphony. North America fell in love with Dmitry Masleev when he made his Carnegie Hall recital debut at the Isaac Stern Auditorium in January 2017 and repeated the same program at Toronto’s Koerner Hall in March. “A discovery and a brilliant pianist”, is howBoris Berezovsky describes Dmitry Masleev. The two musicians have already given two duo recitals in Moscow and are planning several more.

Born and raised in Ulan-Ude (a Siberian town between Lake Baikal and the Mongolian border), Masleev was educated at the Moscow Conservatory in the class of Professor Mikhail Petukhov, and at the International Music Academy at Lake Como.
