RNYSO and Philipp Chizhevsky will perform Schoenberg and Mahler

The Russian National Youth Symphony Orchestra is completing its philharmonic subscription, dedicated to the fifth anniversary of the ensemble. On February 17, in the Tchaikovsky Hall, Philip Chizhevsky will take the helm of the RNYSO; the Borodin State Quartet will also take part in the concert. The program includes Mahler's Seventh Symphony and Schoenberg's Concerto for Quartet and Orchestra (free arrangement of Handel's Concerto grosso No. 7).

This season, the Russian National Youth Symphony Orchestra celebrated its first anniversary - 5 years. Continuing to celebrate its fifth anniversary, the orchestra, under the direction of Philip Chizhevsky, is preparing an extraordinary program, where there are neither symphonic hits nor virtuoso concerts for soloists and orchestra. True, soloists will still appear on stage - members of the legendary Borodin Quartet. A concerto for quartet and orchestra is a huge rarity, and Schoenberg's work in this genre is a rarity of rarities. But audiences expecting atonality or dodecaphony from Schoenberg need not worry: his Concerto for Quartet and Orchestra is an arrangement of one of Handel's Concerto grossos.

The central work of the evening is Mahler's Seventh Symphony, also rarely performed; perhaps this is explained by the atypical structure - connoisseurs still wonder why between the extreme movements of the Seventh Symphony there is placed, as if another one, composed of two mysterious Nocturnes and a central mysterious Scherzo. At the same time, the Seventh is a real celebration of music, leaving no one indifferent. A program like this would brighten the season of any eminent orchestra; Philip Chizhevsky performs it with RNYSO - a group that can handle programs of any complexity.
