Alexander Lazarev and the RNYSO will perform works by Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov
A master of the Russian conducting school, Alexander Lazarev is prized by audiences and critics for his original programs; the maestro has a knack for finding unique qualities in underrated works. On September 28, at the Tchaikovsky Hall, conducting the Russian National Youth Symphony Orchestra, Alexander Lazarev will present works by Russian classics – Rachmaninoff's Third Symphony and Tchaikovsky's rarely performed Concert Fantasy for Piano and Orchestra. The soloist will be international competition laureate Anna Tsybuleva.
The Youth Orchestra's collaboration with Alexander Lazarev extends beyond mere performances: a warm friendship and mutual understanding, established from the very first rehearsals, make their concerts particularly vibrant. Lazarev became the first conductor to conduct his own personal season ticket at the RNYSO (in the 2022/23 season). Under the maestro's baton, the ensemble's repertoire is constantly expanding. The orchestra mastered many works for the first time under Lazarev; Rachmaninoff's Third Symphony and Tchaikovsky's Concert Fantasy for Piano and Orchestra will also be new to the RNYSO.
The solo part in the Concert Fantasy will be performed by Anna Tsybuleva, the second woman in history to win the top prize at the prestigious Leeds Piano Competition (UK). This resounding victory brought her international renown and critical acclaim. The pianist has performed in such halls as Wigmore Hall in London, Tonhalle in Zurich, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
